Mark 49 - 59
Duration:10-16:30

Tide:high around 12

Weather: clear with SW breeze

Bait:fresh mackerel, sandeel

Rigs:various and feathers

Results:mackerel, wrasse,conger, doggies

Catch and Release:: Yes(except mackerel)

Report:

to describe the days events can only be put one way... 'i've had an absolute **** of a day, anything that could go did go wrong'

well it started off as a good day, put fresh shock on the sl20 and cast out with a few feathers attached to just lay the line a bit better .. all was good.. even brought a few mackerel in.. did it a second time.. more mackerel.. then a third...**** the shock know slipped :oops: so back to the drawing board... only to have another knot slip on me.. :evil: :evil:
tried an old shock knot i used to use... so with fresh mackerel on tow cast out a bait... then set up my spinning rod with a very light flowing trace and size 4 hook and 1oz lead.. small strip of mackerel.. cast out and let it slowly drop... 'BANG' a 3lbs ballan wrasse.. nice.. nothing seemed to go for the tactic again though :? .. then the ratchet on the sl20 began to click away.. seemed to be a nice fish coming in.. only to end up being a nice big...... flippin spider crab :? :? :? ... cast out fresh bait again.... only to find that a spider had cut through 30lbs snood :? retied snood and put on a double shot of sandeel on a 2/0 hook... finally ..a doggie (never thought id ever say that about a doggie)... then cast out again... by this stage i had a sliding float with about 13ft drop out.. time to sit down and eat my roll.. just as i finished it nige went to bait up and ended up poaching a nice 4lbs conger :? .. ah well, these things do happen :twisted: .. coming near 15:20 decided to get more fresh bait for the freezer.. zzippy sl20 and feathers sibiki style :D .. a few good loads of fresh mack and again knot slipped.. i give up.. ended up getting nige to tie the knot for me :oops: .. soon after all i can say... 'cracking stuff'.. well put it this way.. the butt section of nige's rod (just behind the reel seat) shattered... ah could it get any worse... unfortunately.. while nige was away i was casting 2oz with a set of 3 feathers.. cast.. 3 mack.. cast... 1 mack.. cast... crack.. no mack and the top section of my spinning rod shattered :cry: :cry: :cry: after that i had a few casts with the zzippy to get the line lay right (with feathers) then gave up fishing.. didnt want anything to happen to my baby...

Sometimes you need days like these to put in perspective what you call a "crap day out"
Suddenly, those previous poor fishing trips dont seem quite so bad

Hard luck lads, sorry to hear bout the broken rods. Almost glad I didn't go now, but salmon fishing in Mayo wasn't any more successful... at least I got the rod home in one piece tho! :shock:
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

rod replaced.. :) shiny and new looking... need to cure that soon.. nothing like a few mack scales to make a rod look well used :D
