Boats out of Westport

#1 Post by trevt »

Hello Folks,

Does anyone know the contact details of any skippers who take fishing trips out of Westport or around that area?

Me and 2 mates are heading down for a long weekend on Thursday 19th and wouldn't mind getting a wee trip out.

Also if anyone can recommend a good lake for trout or a good river to maybe do a bit of salmon fishing, this information would also be most welcome.

Cheers,
Trev

Hi Trev,

Mary Gavin-Hughes operates from Westport. Although she is probably well booked out for weekends now, but give her a call she will steer you in the right direction.

westport charters

#3 Post by kieran »

Hi

You would be doing well to find any space on a westport boat of a weekend.

Check the home page, link above, and the charter boat listings. You might find space on some of the Achill boats - Mr Bruke in Purteen Harbour or possibly Aaron O'Grady who is now based on Clare Island - Aaron will pick up at Roonagh Pier and the benefit is that you are over good fishing a lot faster than the Westport boats.

Some of the Westport boats - especially Vinny in the Helm although he does not skipper them any more - offer shorter trips, 4 hours of an evening and the like mostly for mackerel bashers and kids, but at least you might get out.

A final option would be either Sean Lavelle in Belmullet or Shane Bisgood (who does a lot of diving charters) over in Little Killary. There used to be a few charters in Killala but I am not sure whether they are still operating - and I think there is a new charter operating out of Enniscrone...

FWIW...

Thanks Lads,

I phoned Mary, unfortunately she is booked out, she was very helpful. Managed to get a half day out from Purteen on the Saturday morning. My mate booked it, I cannot remember the name of the skipper though. Hopefully I will get to post a report after we get back.

Cheers,
Trev

Kieran do you know much about Pauric Conlon's boat at all? I know it has been skippered by Tom Moran since about easter - would appreciate if you can give any info at all - PM if need be.
