Slob bank, Youghal 7/7/07 B.A.S.S. Club R.N.L.I. Cup

#1 Post by Tom Maher »

People:8

Duration:4hrs (6:30 - 10:30pm)

Tide:3.7m

Weather:overcast, s/sw wind showers

Bait:crab(small), lug, rag and mackerel

Rigs:flappers and clip downs

Results:8 anglers - 43 fish ( 39 flats with an average size of 34cm, 3 bass and 1 strap conger )

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:Because of the time of year all the crab used were small - mainly because its the only crab around, but we all managed enough to fish and the slob bank always has fish.
We started off roughly an hour after low water to get the run of fish and there were fish caught all the way through, with Brendan O'Regan pulling a strap conger (56cm) in his last cast. The 3 bass were all under 45cms so none were kept.
1st John McSweeney (9 fish), 2nd Tom Maher sr. (9 fish), joint 3rd Mick Maher, Tom Maher (ME) (5 fish each and level points), 5th Cliff Gallogley (5 fish), 6th James Kiniry (4 fish), 7th Dr Seafish (3 fish), 8th Brendan O'Regan (3 fish).

They left the lug alone, but i had 2 flounder on rag .
They also took frozen crab.

Finally John ( johnny Bass ) Mcsweeney's picture ( either the flash didnt work or God did not want us to easily recognize Mr Mcsweeney - nice cup though)

Flounder

#8 Post by drseafish »

I has happy with my fish as two of my flounder were 41 & 42cm. Two the best I have ever had.
I got the first on a large crab and the second on crab, lug and black lug wrap. Both big baits. I got them both in fairly close less than 100 yards.
Just great to get fishing again.

Regards
Drseafish
