Duration: A couple of hours a session over a couple of days

Tide: I tried to fish high tides each time. They were spring tides.

Weather: Most days extremely blustery. This seriously hampered the fishing.

Bait: Fresh mackerel, frozen razor, fresh peeler crab, fresh rag.

Rigs: 2 hook and occassionally 1 hook. Size 6/0's.

Results: 1 lesser spotted dogfish, 2 codling, 1 smooth hound.

Catch and Release:: Yes



Report: I tried a number of different marks from Tinnebearna, Cahore, Pollshone, Roney point, Courtown etc. over a couple of days. It was almost unfishable by my standards anyway. I still enjoyed it.

Just curious. Why did you think it was unfishable Whats your rod\reel set up??

Why the 6\0 hooks were you hoping for tope.

Hello Pat,

I have a 13ft Daiwa Surf master rod.
I have a Penn fixed spool reel.

It was unfishable for me because the breeze was just too strong to keep up on the rod stand. The waves were also quite high and the force of the waves was dragging my line back in. Maybe this could be avoided if my casts were making it past the point where the bigger waves actually first form, but unfortunately I'm not good at distance casting.

The reason I was using 6/0 hooks was to try and pack as much bait onto the hook as possible. I was really hoping for a bass and because they have large mouths even a small 2lb fish could easily get its mouth around a 6/0 hook. This may mean I miss smaller fish but I can live with that, unless of course I start to get frustrated by heading towards a blank. In this case I may tone down my hook size to try and catch something smaller.

Its nice to see how others think, I stick to 3\0 for the bigger baits and seldom go below 1\0.

I have very seldom found those beaches unfishable, I thought maybe it was a weed problem which can crop up now and then.
