white rock, killiney

#1 Post by eric »

People:myself

Duration:2-5

Tide:on the way out

Weather:warm with a stiff westerly and persistent showers.

Bait:rapala magnum(mackerel design) and a dexter's wedge

Rigs:

Results:2 Pollock, 2 mackerel and a Launce

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:decided to go for a spot of bass fishing at the last moment down in white rock as i heard some good reports of fish up to 4lb. spun my way from the car park up to the baths. it was to windy for the plug so i switched to a more aerodynamic spinner and got two mackerel straight away, decided to put them back as my freezer is well stocked. made sure not to touch them as ive heard they die if you do. got a large launce soon after. on the other side of the rock a landed two pollock one being a pound over a small reef about 100yds out. not a bad way to spend an evening but no bass, anyone know a good mark down there?

Winds are westerly at the moment. With my spinning setup I could easily put a 32g kilty 100 Yards in a Westerly.

My setup is Greys Greyflex 11 foot, 10 - 45g rod. Fixed spool reel (Abu Sueveran 4000). 30lb Power Pro.

Where is white rock exactly, up past the sewage outlet on Killiney or down the other end towards the city?

<edit> ok I just read the report again and it seems it's near the lifeguards hut, am I correct?
I got a bit of hassle recently from a guy when they were doing a cleanup, told me not to be fishing in the area between the flags because swimmers use it. I told him that he was the first on the beach that morning and I was on the end of an all-nighter and I'd be gone once swimmers started. He was alright about it, blue flag or something.

You are entitled to fish where you want and nobody can or should tell you otherwise. Anybody telling me to stop fishing better be wearing a life jacket!

white rock is just at the end of the beach towards dalkey, it marks the beginning of a rocky shoreline as opposed to a beach, the lifeguard told me the same thing today, i simply responded by telling him its a public place and what im doing is not illegal, he had no answer to that. a swimmer did think it would be funny to swim in font of my line, ignorant fool!

attually i dont think you are allowed to fish between the 1st and 2nd yellow and red flags. anyway, they usually dont take up the whole beach so whats the problem? its ignorant and irresponsible to fish in front of swimmers anyway.

its ignorant for a swimmer to swim infront of an angler when the whole freekin beach is empty but some idiots still insist on doing it (langers) if everone had more than an ounce of common sense on both sides of this argument the beach would be a much more pleasant place to go for all concerned :D lets not mention dog owners  p.s i can get a dexter 110 yards with a 12 foot pike rod (that is i could it exploded on sun evening now a five section instead of three  )

Whiterock

#12 Post by Stan »

Most people swim straight out in front of the car park on Killiney beach. So it is probably as well to avoid this area.

To the left of Whiterock, near the little pier, the nudists swim. Occasionally they swim up beside the actual rock, when the beach is busy in summer.

From Killiney beach swimmers also swim up towards the rock.

If they swim near me I simply move down the rocks a bit...common sense.

There is room for all and nobody should tell anybody else that they have to move.

If you are on a beach and see swimmers surfers then it is reasonable to avoid them. They should have the same respect for anglers
