Greystones 30/6/07
People:Myself and Girlfriend
Duration:19.30 - 00.30
Tide:HT 23.30
Weather:not much wind, sea a bit rough though but warm
Bait:toby rocket plus rag,squid,sandeel
Rigs:pennell rigs
Results:freezer full of mackerel and some dogfish
Catch and Release:: Yes/No, dogs went back and good few mackerel but kept enough for bait
Report:Got to Greystones last night and decided to fish from the rocks.Started off doing a bit of spinning as the place was alive with sprat, they were being chased onto the rocks and the Mackerel were jumping onto the rocks after them, the sea was boiling with Mackerel at this stage, anyway got plenty to keep me going for the next few weeks or so plus a few for the pan.One fella came along and asked what I was fishing for, as he saw I had another 2 rods set up and was spinning aswell , he was surprised I wasn't just fishing for the Macks, anyway off he goes to another spot with a set of feathers and soon enough is pulling in 6 at a time cast after cast and then he hits the jackpot..a bass around the 10lb mark
Apart from the Macks I got a few dogs off the bottom, nothing else. The girlfriend got some Macks on sandeel and squid from the bottom and also a few dogfish.
Good night's fun but to see that bass fall to a Mackerel basher, thats fishing I suppose!!

Greystones - Thursday 29th June 2007
Macks everywhere, big trawler moved in close to shore think it was getting in the mack bashin. 3 of us out, started with feather and were pulling in full traces of macks, threw most back but kept some fine meaty ones for nice bbq later on the beach. Spent the rest of the evening trying for other species but to find nothing other than dogs off bottom. Baits used : peeler crab, sandeel, mussel, squid and rag all producing doggies through the night.

Thats what I was doing, using 6lb line and the toby, even had one fella standing looking at me saying I should be using a set of feathers as the Mackerel were chasing the sprat and I had a better chance of catching them :D ,he thought I was a bit mad when he saw me shaking the fish off the hook,he even told me that they don't bite you know
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!
