Can anyone tell me what causes a crack off??
Was out practice casting in Clonea on Friday
(between the downpours  ) and was
doing okay with some nice casts
until I got a serious crack off.
Hate losing leads etc  but I think the
sound of it is so cool
I did notice that during the first half of the cast
the line was "lifting" off the spool but would settle
down as it got nearer the end of the cast.
Was using a 4oz lead with a 525 mag
(mag setting @ fast ) and 0.35mm line.
Casting style was a variation on a wellknown
corkmans method :D :D :D ( u know who you are :D :D )
- I guess it was a kinda aerialised OTG???? Or not -
I cant really put a name to it  :?
Is it down to line lay?? casting method?? reel and line??
too low/high a weight??
Any help greatly appreciated
john.

your spot on donal, again its a hard one to pin-piont but IMO rushing the cast, a jerky cast, bad line lay, any of these can lead to crack offs and then again some days i get them and just cant explain why..

did u get a bad birdy when u cracked off ie. was it at the very start of the cast or (shockleader knot )or 1/4 -1/2 of the cast (when the line was lifting slightly ) a different leader knot or 1 oz more lead may fix the problem or a little bit of magnet power if you like the 4oz lead
then again i,m no expert just learning like everyone else the day i know it all is the day to stop

Thanks for the replys lads.
Think my leader knot is okay - seems nice and tidy enough. Will put the mags back on until I get smoother as suggested.
Will also experiment with a 5 and 6 oz lead to see if that makes any difference.
Must try to get a vid up here and see what ye all make of it
will report back on next session (once the winds calm down a bit)
john.

What make and model of rod are you using. They may say 4-8oz but a lot of rods could not take the pressure of a 6oz lead and would collapse under the strain turning your cast into pully. I use the td-xs 133pm with a 6oz lead but would never use 6oz on the Supercast as I can feel the the rod collapsing when trying to hit the same distance
