Help with m Abu 6500

#1 Post by SHANE R »

Hi all
I have a major problem with my abu 6500 C3 ct. When i engage the free spool it will not disengage again by turning the handle. I have to flick up the engage button to engage the reel . I only have this reel about 6 months but I can't find the reciept so I can't return it because I didn't buy it in my local shop. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix or who could fix it.

Cheers
Shane

i think every abu will suffer from this problem as the spool release button lets in so much crud i recon someone asks this question once or twice a month maybe a sticky with the answer would help 8)

that happened with two of my abu's, the first time it was a small plastic retainging clip that cracked and meant the enganing mechanism was loose and so it would not engage got it replaced. the second time it happend i thought it was as before ut it was just the muck and dirt in round it once cleaned it worked no bother worth to get it checked properly though.

Had a similar problem myself. Reel needed new parts after 3 fishing trips, really turned me off abu. The lads in southside said they see it all the time.
