People: myself, richard and dale

Duration: 7 hours

Tide: ebb

Weather: shorts and t shirt weather

Bait: mackerel sand eels

Rigs: fixed ledger pennel

Results: 5 thornbacks 1 gurnard

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: We fished the tide from top to bottom which with hind sight was not the best idea as all the fish were taken at dead low water when we were able to reach the channel. We fished right up beside the first black marker I got he first ray one about 6lb this was closely followed by dale with two in quick succession one about 5.5lb the other slightly smaller. At this point richard had nothing to show for his endeavors except for a small gurnard which was of great delight to dale and myself but just as we were thinking of calling it a day richard managed to hook two at once on a one up one down rig both around the 5lb mark. needless to say the run home was not as enjoyable as dale and myself had hoped. Where/how did you get the plaice?

To be honest i wasn't targeting place i was fishing a flowing trace approx 6ft with strips of Mak and Squid on it.

I caught it very close to the shore down below Portsallon, it was 30cm long and tasted lovely

I haven't had much luck around the swilly yet but this mark seem pretty good the only problem i had that day was the wind was offshore and was blowing me onshore and the drifts were very fast, the sounder was marking a lot of fish within 20mtrs of the shore.

you cant fish this mark from the shore as there are high cliffs all around it. The next time i will try there i will anchor up and see how that goes.

Cheers,

I have a wee boat down at Fahan Marina myself so I'm not bothered about shore access.

Still trying to bag a Swilly plaice though.

Hi Shamrock we should try to meet up and try out a few spots I'm in the marina also.

Tell us this, have you ever fished for mullet inside the marina? It's full of them...

Gonny give them a bash this summer now

Shamrock yea Ive seen the Mullet loads of them some of them must be 6 or 7lb weight but as part of the terms nd conditions of the marina it says you are not allowed to fish in it, Don't know if they enforce this rule but i will find out as I'm headn down later and will ask Nancy.

Ourway Sat 30th suits me. What about a small boat comp ? i think there are a few members with boat es there may bee we could arrange something ?
