Easkey Co Sligo June 18

#1 Post by fearghall »

People:Myself and my brother + lots of locals

Duration :17:30 to 21:30

Tide:Peaked about 20:00

Weather:overcast

Bait:feathers and spoons

Rigs: string of feathers or hokkais with a toby type spoon on the end.

Results:Mackeral, pollack and wrasse.

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: Fish could be caught under the rod tip, just by jigging the feathers and spoon up and down. Wrasse were all on taken on the spoon as was lifted of the bottom. Everyone there was catching - mainly mackeral. Saw some coalfish taken off the slipway by one of the locals.

Also fished Easkey one evening the previous week with bottom baits for about 7 hours, one strap conger, plus plenty of mackeral close in to feathers. Mackeral even took flattie rigs on the retrieve, presumably they liked the beads! Other than that bottom baits (fresh mackeral, frozen lug, frozen razor) did not produce. Took one pollack (about 2 and half pounds) on feathers that was stuffed with inch long sprats.
