Following on from my recent trip to Malin Head Pier, I spent a good few hours Driving around the Eastern facing side of Inishowen looking for decent spots to get the rods out. I started in Greencastle at Dunagree Point, I clambered out on the rocks at Shroove Beach, but to be honest I wasn’t impressed, perhaps access round the other side of the light house may be better, but I decided to head north, further out around Inishowen Head. The road that takes you up around Inishowen Head very quickly becomes a dirt track. I ventured a few miles out this track but eventually I decided to go back as I reckoned my car had taken a bad enough battering already! The cliffs below look amazing but I just couldn’t find access to down anywhere. I have been told of a mark from Kinnago Bay but its supposed to be a long dangerous trek from the beach.
I left Greencastle and headed north to Glengad, again the scenery is amazing, but access to the shore is a problem. I headed first to the pier at Glengad, but it didn’t look very fishable, and the rocks out either side of the bay looked a lot more appealing. I eventually got down to the rocks via a small grass lane, off a road along the coast. The grassy lane soon turned into a small steep winding track down to a stoney shore past an old crumbling house. The mark wasn’t very fishable as the rocks didn’t really give access to deep water. After about half an hour of nothing I decided to head back to the more familiar Culdaff Pier. I Fished of the nose for about Half an hour using rag and pulled in 4 or 5 Coalies of around 1lb. I left Culdaff and headed back to Greencastle and Fished for about an hour of the Nose into the Channel were the ferry to magilligan passes. I blanked for around 20mins and then decided to stick on a Frozen Sand eel, just after the bait hit the bottom I could feel the several good knocks, but I didn’t strike any of them. I pulled the line in and found the hook had been cleaned. I cut another sand eel in half, got it on the hook and back into the water, and almost straight away I struck into a fish, when I pulled it in, it was a coalie of around 2lb. By this point I was having difficultly keeping the sand eel on the hook my next four or five casts resulted in several strong knocks on the line but no strikes and as time passed my frozen sand eel just turned to mush due to the heat!
For me the day was more about finding decent marks than actually spending any great amount of time fishing! There has to be some great marks for big coalies and Pollack along to eastern side of Inishowen, but they are hard to find!
Can anyone on here point me in the right direction?

hi mate I am in the same boat as yourself as all the marks i know are fished out, but a mate of mine has a caravan at malin and says that out the back of malin pier there is some rocks (few minutes walk) where spinning picks up a few big fish, still trying to find the low water mark he fishes near the caravan site at port ronan (i think) its a turn off before the pier as he has got nice pollock from there

A good mark to try for decent pollock is behind the pier at culdaf its a bit of a clamber over the rocks but well worth it. You get over the wall at the start of the pier and walk along the track you ll see the remains of a fire where some of the locals camp occasionally just head for the farthest part of the head land we ve had pollock to 6lb there pretty regular and loads around the 3-4lb mark. Another mark with a try is at malin head you drive out past the harbor on the coast road and you ll pass the curiosity shop about 300 yds past it there's a dry stone gate post on your right you can park beside that on the grass, the mark is over the field and its the farthest point out you can see it from the road it can get cut off with a big tide so smaller neaps are best on the flood. Hope that's of some help.
Happy hunting.

Condor bars are good but the ground is very rough so losses are high we use fire tails the black rubber worms with the red tails their only about 20p each. The way we fish them is to cast as far as possible and let them sink right to the bottom a couple of quick turns of the reel gets them going then its just a steady retrieve, about half way in let it drop back to the bottom and carry on as before this insures the lure stays just above the weed where the pollock are you ll lose a few fish in the weed unless you really bully them at the start of the fight action can be fantastic.
