People: Myself and the old man

Duration: 12 till 6pm

Tide:Not too sure what it was doing!

Weather:Rainy and a bit windy,fairly bad

Bait:Rag tipped with mack

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:5 doggies,2 whiting(1 was 3.5lbs) and 2 small flatties

Catch and Release:: Yes



Report: Not the best weather for a days fishing but at least we were pulling in a few.Ennereilly is a lovely spot and would love to fish it when dark.Overall a good few hours fishing

good to see you got a few fish.

just one thing are you sure it was a 3.5lb whiting :shock: .

if so i am on the way down the n11 when you reply :lol: :lol: .
haven't seen many around that size all my years.

if you were fishing from a boat out of cork or some place like that i would not be so surprised.

Well I'm pretty sure it was a whiting,I checked it in a book and everything.

I'll try and post the pics soon

Is there any other fish that would look like a whiting that could weigh 3.5 lbs

A 3.5 lb whiting is big, big even for a specimen!!!!
Congrats!

Cant think of any other fish that may be confused with it. If it had the small sharp teeth of a whiting, thats usually conclusive. Pollack etc excluded
A small ling?

:shock: I didn't even know it was a specimen! Sure I'm only a relative newbie to the fishing scene!

Mate of mine had a 2 1/2 pound whiteing their at ennereily last week.

not being smart or anything but maby was it a small codling, if not then well done, thats a very nice whiting from the shore
shore species 2008(25):dogfish(3.1lbs), bull huss (12lb 2oz), bass, shore rockling, coalie, whiting, pollack, conger (22.4lbs),flounder, thick lipped mullet (4.8lbs),turbot,ling (11.2lbs),ballan wrasse(4.5lbs), cuckoo wrasse, pouting, poor cod, cod (9.5lbs), dab, 3 bearded rockling, long spined scorpion fish, corkwing wrasse, plaice, trigger fish, sea trout, garfish
