Dingle 9th June 07

#1 Post by Adam S »

People: Me and Rachel

Duration: evening from 6pm or so

Tide: rising from low

Weather:sunny and warm

Bait:mack, sandeel, EMF oil mix

Rigs:pulleys

Results:2 ray to about 6lbs

Catch and Release:: Yes as always

Report:

Fished dingle harbour last saturday at the start of a very enjoyable but also very difficult holiday (difficult to be so close to all those big wrasse without being able to fish for them :D ). but at least i got to scope put some new marks for the future.

it was such a sunny evening we (my fiancee and me) decided to head to dingle harbour to soak up the sun and watch that mad dolphin do his stuff for the evening. what i had found out from the local anglers (confirming what century man found) was that the bay was not fishing well and the ray that were being caught were generally small. though i got a couple of ray i would tend to agree, as i fished hard, while rachel patiently read and took pics, for just two takes over about four hours fishing two rods.

the bay looks healthy to me, plenty of worm and shrimp around, but just not fishing well.

anyway, got the first ray, a tiny little one straight away. but had to wait for a long while for a decent one. the best one went maybe six lbs just as i was gonna pack up.

fished mack and sandeel (got both on mack) oiled. just two takes over the whole session, big baits, crabs were very active as ever. no sign of macks or pollock.

generally i would say the fishing was ok, not great. also managed to get a quick two hour trip out on danny mc carthys boat , deep cove, in brandon on the monday. fishing was again decent, had macks, launce, pollock, cod, poor cod and ...... one octupus on a starlight rig, will put report in the boats section

At least you didn't have a blank Adam...lol

Have to say , I found it tough fishing too as you know. Big baits every few minutes because of the crabs etc. The fish just dont seem to be there (not in numbers anyway).

Hope you had better weather than I did.

I'm def goin back though, prob head over for a week next time. Tis a great place for a session too (not the fishin kind either lol).

Tope fishing seems to be poor this year too so far. I 've only had the one in about 4 or 5 sessions where as last year I had 3 in 2 days.
