I went to Howth Sat with the last of last years macks for bait I thought I would watch the lads chucking feathers for a while maybe join in and then go around to the end of the far pier to try for pollock. There was nobody their :o so I feathered and baited myself for a while but nothing 4-5 others came along and still nothing. Tide was ebbing. So bored with it and not in the mood of making the long walk I stuck a mack with one side stripped on to a meat hook and 50lb leader and a 6oz weight and lobbed it into the margins.....result a double figure conger a pb from the shore. I let him off .....
{edit: just seen 10lbs is a specimen I didn't think it was that low (he was deffo 13-14lbs) If I had known I would have wieghed it didn't even get a shot on my phone, some Polish lad took a shot of me with the fish but where is he now :cry: ?}
Anyway no mackerel were caught that day but there were a few on the Sunday and reports of a shoal during the week

Hello,
It's nearly a week since anyone has reported about macks, is this because the bad weather means they're not turning up in great numbers?
I saw some other reports during the week where they're being caught along with other species, maybe they're just a lot scarcer at the mo'
Anyway, even if you have a report that says you got none I think that's useful.
I'm hoping to get a bit of fishing this evening along the south coast, will report
Blackie
