Mackeral
Right its only Early June and the mackeral are in full force... last night there were huge shoals jumping out of the water in Rush huge 100m long shoals they were everywhere. People in skerries were able to catch them in buckets. Now up until last year they never really came in to rush so what has changed??? Its only early June is this a result of global warming??

I THINK HALF THE REASON COULD BE THAT INSHORE FISHING HAS BEEN A BIT MORE RESTRICTED THERE ARE HARDLY ANY VESSELS FISHING OUT OF Dun Laoghaire harbour anymore but id say the weather is the big deciding factor that was one of the warmest aprils we ever had and it must have heated the water up a bit earlier than usual.
Wish list for 2015: sword tail, black Molly, horny cobbler

i think it has to be the warm april - and a lot of mention before christimas that the mack shoals were doing well by the commercials - to the point of new larger mackeral by-catches being agreed upon etc.
catch and release!

This is very strange to read especially about water temps cause Saturday at Little Killary on the mid west coast in Connemara it was dead and on Sunday we went down the beach for a swim with sky high beach temps but the sea was absolutely freezing infact it was so cold it was painfull.
I havent heard of anybody catching any Mack's in quantity around our way.
