my biggest shore pollack

only just got round to putting something in print, had a week in Kerry 25th May to 2nd June and despite some pretty...changeable weather, I landed the biggest pollack I've ever had from the shore!
Was fishing with a big weighted shad type thing about 15 mins walk / scramble from Kells pier when it was grabbed by an 11lb pollack which didn't want to leave the kelp!
After a few real powerful dives - only on a 12lb line & a light carp rod so couldn't bully him too much - I used a wave to bring him up onto a rock ledge. Awesome fish!
Had the kids for the week so didn't get much fishing done, that was definitely the highlight of the holiday. Other than that, a few macks, wrasse & small pollack round Valentia / Cahersiveen.
Roll on getting back in August!

Wow! Had a seven pounder from the shore and that was awesome. 11 lbs on light tackle must have been some fight! Well done.

I regret I didn't get a piccy, didn't even take the camera on holiday...Doh!
I got a couple of shots on the phone but because I'm a techno-numpty, I can't get them on the PC.
All along most of that area, the rocks / cliffs drop away really sharply onto quite a deep sandy bottom so you'll never get pollack or wrasse more than 20 or 30 yards out, this fella was probably less than 10 yards out when he hit.
It really came as a surprise...there are other places where I'd half expect to get a big pollack from the beach but I'd never had anything over about 3 or 4lb from there before.
By the way, a lure I have had quite a bit of success with for the pollack, especially drifting for the reef pollack is made by a guy called Laurence Short in Dover. His company is called Traceace (http://www.traceace.com) and he calls them bass bandits / pollack bandits. Give one a try, they're like the old eddystone eels but 100 times better!

In fact, I say I hadn't had a fish over 3 or 4lb...lets be realistic, I doubt I've ever had much over 2lb from Kells before! Only reason we went there was the wind wasn't howling in yer face, it was from behind us.
