This was caught in the Swilly today, just off Rathmullan Pier.

Does anyone know what it is? Sorry about the poor fotos - it was my father caught it not me!

Kinda looks like a dragonet, did it have a bigish spike on its back? Impressive colours on it though.

Yep... That's a Dragonet, it looks like a female, the males have incredible electric blue spots and edgings to their fins.

Cool looking things :o Did he catch it on bait Shamrock?
Sea Species(25) bass, codling, whiting, turbot, seatrout, stingray, pollock, coalfish, longspine scorpion, ballan wrasse, dogfish, ling, pouting, poor cod, dab, mackerel, smelt, sandeel, launce, bull huss, painted ray, thick lip mullet, golden grey mullet, rock goby.
Fresh Water (2) brown trout, sea trout

Nope, I think it was just a plain, unbaited hokkai type lure.

I'll double check with him though.
