Lure's For Yakking

#1 Post by Greywulff »

Hi all, this is a selection of lures that I find good while yakking but some have worked for me from the shore. I think the best all rounder is the Dexter with the Rapala Sliver coming a close second.

Here's a pic:

None of the above have sniffed a Bass but I blame the location Sligo Bay and I thought the Rapala Sliver would have attracked attention from one trolling outside the surf.

Any idea's,

The Location seems to be the problem alright.

Some good lures there,,,,, looks like a move might be in order.

I've read alot of threads on Bass/locations on this site but if ya had to pick one or two venues where would they be as the nearest coast line is still the northwest but thats an hours drive and I'm an hour and a halfish from Dublin.

It's not like I'm gonna be there every day or anything so feel free to post  or PM me.

Ever notice how protective we Irish are about locations/bait, for instance look at the WHO IS ONLINE on the main page nearly 1000 people have visited the site and only a hand full are contributing Bait/Locations I know not all are from Ireland but come on, SHARE THE WEALTH  or not its up to you.

I do Laugh  when I hear this when you ask "What did you catch him on" REPLY "A lure" "A Bait" "A Fly" were a funny old nation like that.

All the best,

And Thanks,

I'd have to agree with you there......

Where is easy for you and your Yak to get to...... I have a venue or two East or west coast that I'll PM.

Many of those lures look like petty deep divers. For bass I would focus on shallow reefy areas, I could fish with 2 plugs for bass till the day I die. Yo Zuri Crysatl Minnow 130 mm and Allie Magnet Slider Sandeel colour ( The smaller of the Two) This picture of the Yo Zuri was taken in 1995. Shes still going strong ,catching bass and looking even worse for wear . I am very tempted to hit a few of my other plugs with some sandpaper to remove the shine as nothing seems to be able to outfish my old faithful matt finished Crystal Minnow.

The Dexter is the lure between the blue Toby spoon and the landa mackerel spoon, here's a link but I buy them locally, http://www.seafishingsupplies.co.uk/pro ... cts_id=175

Barramundi, I take it you think that maybe I'm trolling to deep and that's why I'm not hitting the Bass in my area. Yo zuri lures troll between 1 to 2 meters so its really just subsurface lure I should be looking at for Bass, would that be right?.
I know they are there but are few and far between. Which I think would make catching one all that much exciting. I know of some sandbanks in the 20' range whats ur thoughts on these areas. When you talk about shallow reefy areas what kind of depths do you mean. Also when sea anglers are talking about reefs around our coasts I take it they are talking about rocky out crops or rough ground surrounded by sandy bottoms. Would I be right in this or could someone describe a classic coastal reef for our coasts?
Thanks for that Barra' I was catching pollack and the odd wrasse with the plugs I'm using but they are nearly always deeply caught fish, I'll have to invest,

Thanks,

Buy Hooked on Bass

Reading chapter 5 (I think its that chapter) ''Shallow Rocky shores'' changed everything for me. Read it every winter prior to the season. I struggled prior to reading the book. Ive not read i for two years now,

Thanks Barramundi,

Just bought it on Amazon, looking forward to reading it  with a cup of tea and a big fire as the weather here is pants at the moment.

Had a look around ur website brillant stripers where did ye go.

I fly fished for Nile perch and tiger fish on lake Nasser in 2004 had good success with the small perch to 7lb and only to 3lb with the tigers [IMG:1666:1124]http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2994/3lbtigerfishhn3.jpg[/img]which are unbelievable when you manage to hook up they have some mouth of teeth. My biggest Perch of the trip (42lb)came to lures one in particular (Rapala Super Shad Rap Firetiger)[IMG:1198:942]http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/3082/42lbnileperchva2.jpg[/img]I'd will do it again, well organized these guys. http://www.african-angler.co.uk/
Our biggest fish of the trip was 68lb and they can fight even breeching out of the water. Well worth the trip.

That Perch looks very similar to a Barramundi !

We were striper fishing Cape Cod

We had tem to 36 '' on fly . I had this fish at 40 '' on a plug in the surf at night. Bloody awesome. I have another trip arranged for 2008. I cant wait !
