i know that my grandfather used to get flounder with mepps off of the old youghal bridge but that was back in the days when fishing was easy and you didnt have to think like a fish just to catch one
Theres no doubt that they will take lures since its one of the sports fish targeted by beach bass lure angler in japan.Just wonder is it worth a try just to purposely try spinning just to target them here in ireland.Anybody ever try that??Maybe a deep diving lure that work close to the bottom on shingles or clean beach will do the trick.Found this on japanese lure site....

we get them on small shrimp pattern flies fished so the bounce along the bottom quite often. flounder are quite inquisitive and predatory fish and will attack crustations skipping along the bottom.
I caught some large flounder before in the middle of a bass mayhem session. They fell to a german sprat and were approx 2Ib each. I have done it before on a few occasions and have had people beside me do it. One most memorable was in Saleens in Waterford when the flounder in question was close to specimen. Have a pic of it somewhere at home, must try to find it.
Top 3 lure caught bass 2017 :
10Ib 5 oz
9Ib 2oz
8Ib 11oz
Nice one Eoghan, Would love to see that Pic if you can dig it out. Have been meaning to try crazy charlie flies for them....just haven't got to it yet.
2lb???wow...that must be fun.Maybe only the big one will go for the lure.I think its hard to get a decent size fish when using bait cause the small one tend to go for the bait most of the time.A light set up gear in a calm day would be sufficient i think and it will provide more fun.Just wonder,do this fish come close to shore when flooding tide??Catch most of my flatties in bray pier ,but the size was so small, just wonder is anybody ever tried killiney beach for this species??There should be a big and decent size of flattie in that beach i think.
any fly with a good bit of movement and a wee bit of flash which fishes so it sends little puffs in the sand will catch them, also helps if their weedless
