Report: Having just got back from being a week away I was anxious to get a final bass hunt in before the close season. Unfortunately, I was too late to get fresh bait. Nevertheless, there was an excellent surf and things looked promising at first. As I walked along the beach it became apparent that weed was going to be a problem. Huge rafts of kelp had been dumped up on the high water mark. I trekked to a part of the beach where I thought I might get away from the worst of it. No such luck. After every cast my gear was shortly lifted along with the tide by huge clumps of the stuff. I stuck it out and was lucky to land a nice flounder (41cm). However, after constant titanic battles landing huge stalks of kelp I called it a day. Later spotted the report of excellent bass session on Mickthepainter's Dublin beach. Green with envy!!! What excellent fishing though - fair play to the Lads!
