Jelly worms

#1 Post by trevt »

Folks,

I just got 25 jelly worms off ebay. There is a terrible smell of rubber from them that I suspect may put the fish off.

Is there anything I can do to remove this smell from them?

Cheers,
Trev

I woundn't overly worry about the rubber smell as jelly worms work to a fish's predetary instinct . ie thats food eat it quick before anything else does.

Hi Lads,

deployed one of the jelly worms today out at the maidens. Hit a nice little pollock of about 2lb first drop. So the smell is not a problem. Thanks for the sound advice :D

Hi Trev

My wee lad got three pollock on them today near Millisle. I got two, one around two pounds, on a sandeel type spinner.

Where do you sail from to get to the maidens? I know where they are but it's probably a bit far for us at the moment as we're new to all this boat stuff.

I sail out of bangor

Cheers

Hi Harry,

Headed out from Larne. On a calm day it should be within your range depending on your boat but from Bangor thats a fair trek. If you trailer your boat you could always launch from Carnfunock as we did today (just outside Larne along the coast road) make sure your boat will clear the height restriction bars as you go into the car park, I found out the hard way by not lowering my radio antenna 2 months ago.

If you go to the maidens study this map carefully as there are many rocks out there.

http://mapserver.maptech.com/homepage/i ... type=DM.MM

I am hoping to hit a few wrecks out there very soon, Sumatra and MV Maria. A diver told me the ling and pollock on these wrecks are monsters.
These wrecks are just south of the Highland Rock (refer to the link above).
For GPS co-ords check out the site 'Irish wrecks online' just google it.

But, if you are not that experienced with the boating/navigation at the moment my advice would be to get more experience before hitting the maidens. There are many wrecks out there for a reason.

Hope this helps.
:)

Cheers,
Trev

Hi Okuma,

Where did you purchase your ultrabite from? I tried ordering from Mullarkeys but they said they no longer do it.
