Weather:n/e wind and rain

Bait:crab

Rigs:2 + 3 hook flappers and clipped

Results:31 fish (flounders, coalies and bass)

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:Crappy weather and green weed every cast - what a lovely way to spend a sunday. It was fairly slow to start with only 3 guys catching in the 1st hour. The 1st peg was about 60ft past the sand bank and the comp was won there by Jamie Santry with 8 fish, 2nd was Cliff Gallogley (peg 9) with 7, 3rd was Brendan O'Regan (peg 8) with 4, 4th was James Kiniry (peg 4) with 4, 5th was Mick Maher (peg10) with 3, 6th was Graham Burke (peg 2) with 3 and i was 7th with 2.
i have to ask for peoples opinions on something. i got a fish in and out of the water and then my line broke under the weight of weed. By the time i made my way down the trace had slid back into the water. i measured the fish and released it. i asked the other guys and none were 100% sure whether the fish would count or not, but left it up to me whether i counted it..... i didnt.
Now it is all academic, cant be changed, no use crying over spilt milk etc, but should it have counted?

i would of and i think no one would say anything cos anyone that happened to would count it too.

i agree with colin, i no there is a rule about fish being retreived on lost rigs not counting but i think that this is only if you have cast another rig out in the mean time.
if i were you i would have the scores ammended to reflect the counting fish

TBH it is too late for that now.

It is too late now, but thanks for clearing it up. Most of the guys at the comp would allow it but none were 100% sure. if it had counted i would have moved up to 6th.

ANYWAY, here are some pics from the comp. only 3 this time as the weather made me not want to move from my peg too much.

I would agree as well Tom. As long as the fish measured was retrieved by hand after the line breaks. I have heard of guys snagging and snapping the main line and then getting the rig back with a fish on a few casts later... These fish should not count.

Just my thoughts.

I think the grey area for me was when the trace slid back into the water/weed by the time i got to it.
