mullet fishing?!
hi all, i'm sure this sort of post pops up all the time so sorry to bore any of u. i would like to get some expertise if i can. the thing is i've fished for mullet on one or two occasions but its just been when i've sighted them fishing for other fish and obviously i've had completely the wrong setup and they didn't want to know. in a couple of marks i fish there is some cracking mullet that show themselves, some really big ones and i'd like to target them this year. tell me if i'm going wrong here but i was thinking of buying some self-weighted clear floats, a spool of 8lb line and size 10 hooks. i was thinking of fishing with bread 2-3 foot under the float. would this setup catch mullet?? don't be afraid to tell me if i'm going completely wrong. any replies r very welcome!

that's perfect but try to get some 8lb fluorocarbon for the hooklenth and i would go up to a size 6 or 8 hook. i think that people fishing with small hooks gave rise to the whole soft lip thing and most of the time if you are using a size 6 hook you will be able to put alot of pressure on the fish. the most recent mullet i got i got it on a size 6 hook and i could hardly get it out of the fish!!

thanks mate, i've read some of ur reports and u know ur stuff about mullet fishing. thanks for the tip on the hook size, i'll get size 8 and 6 and c how i go. u mentioned the hooklength, maybe this is were i was stupid, i thought i read somewhere to use ur main line straight thru to the hook. no knots, no swivel, no beads is what i've read so thanks for that chum. would 8lb mono spook them then??

agree. larger hooks gave me much more hook ups than smaller sizes. i used to use 3.5lb line for em- great craic! maddies, mackeral, bread and maggots worth a try depending on where u are fishing.
