Weather:bright with a sharp n/westerly breeze.

Bait:mack lug launce

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:1 weeverfish,1 turbot,1 thornback ray.

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:I was undecided after leaving the isle of doagh after spending half an hour digging lug but opted to go out to the pier.
the first fish caught was the weever on mackerel never seen one in the flesh before i thought it was a very small whiting when it was still in the water,i was being careful unhooking it as i'd heard about the painfull venom they release but not careful enough because when the pliers got close to its mouth it flipped up a bit and spined me on the first joint on the back of the index finger :oops: (incidently it broke off a bit of spine when it stung me which i didn't pick up on at the time only about 2mm long) i carried on fishing and after about 5-10 mins it felt like i'd given my finger a good belt with a hammer.
I thought i heard somewhere that hot water was the remedy to help neutralise the venom but i didn't have any so made do with steeping my finger in hot tea from the flask,it eased the pain a fair bit but for about an hour or so i had an arm that was sore back to the elbow. :roll: .
Definately a case of once bitten twice shy.i'll be a lot more carefull if i get another but ive been fishing this area for years and never caught one before, it was about 6 inches long.
Caught the tubot on mack as well it was only about 1 lb .
Things went quiet for about an hour and the tide was falling fast and i was just thinking of pulling out i got a good pull that brought the butt of the rod right around this time a thornback of 5 1/2 lbs which gave a fair account of itself, managed to unhook this fish without being bitten, spiked or otherwise doing myself an injury :lol:

Weavers are nasty little buggers there are two different types i think; lesser and greater. i think the one u cot was greater, but I'm not sure.... U really should go to your doctor 2mor and get a tetanus injection

Most people get stung by weavers in the foot when they are walking in the water (on the beach)and the treatment of choice for that is to immerse the foot (or whatever gets stung) in as hot as water as u can possibly bear. But u still need to get a tetanus injection just to be safe :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

John boy, I'm serious about this, u need to go to the doc 2mor and also tell him about that rash u have :) :) :)
