anyone using the brighton cast?

dont like any cast that envolves putting a clipped rig on the ground :evil: has anyone been using this cast? looks good for piers/ man made structures. heard its a potential rod breaker? :shock:

I haver Been using this cast for I reckon about 15 years, I use it instead of a normal off the ground cast if the conditions are no use for pendlum.
Because of the short drop you use, and the fact you put the lead under the rod tip, the rod compresses almost immediately and if you are using a cheap rod it can explode.
I would not use this cast with a 3 piece rod, or with the longer continental style rods because of the power it develops.
The original zziplexx gs match was designed for this type of cast, and the zf250 followed on when the gs match was discontinued.
I have used this cast with a penn viper evo1 without problems although i have never used more than 80% power.
Using 80lb leader, a 6oz lead, a 4' drop, and no body rotation at all, I can hit around 200yds using a brighton cast and my Zf250.
I'm surprised that more people don't use it as it is so easy.

That's the cast Lad's.
As you can see it's such an easy, lazy cast to do. You can see that the rod is fully compressed instantly, and it's about 80% of the way through a Pendulum before the rod is compressed as much.
How effective is it ?
Well using this cast, with a little more arm action I can put a clipped 4/0 pennel for ray 175yds (measured over grass casting a baited trace).
No swinging, no timing, no birdies.............
Having said that I will still use a pendulum whenever I can because I love the feeling you get when you get a good pendlum away.

Most definately Al, If I am teaching anyone the basics of casting I will show them the Brighton cast, you just lay the lead inside the rodtip, and punch-pull, very simple, and more importantly it is a very safe cast as there is no swing involved, and it generally is very accurate so each cast goes the same direction as the previous, and no chance of casting over a neighbours line.
And the punch pull at the end of the cast is exactely the same as in the Pendulum, or off the ground cast. so you are learning the important part of these 2 casts, because without getting the punch pull correct you cant do either of them right.

It's called the Brighton cast because it was developed for long distance casting off Brighton Pier in the uk. And as a added bit of trivia, because you are not using a long trace, locals developed the "brighton loop" rig for use with this cast in confined situations when you want a long bottom snood.

it's actually Led and 'H.A.' that have got me thinkin about this cast...

the more castin styles u know the better me thinks. different situations and all that...

There is no variation of this cast where you swing the lead.
there is no need to, the only variation is putting in some body rotation.
try it out, you will be surprised.

I see the lead is lying on the ground behind the caster does this pose any problem for a clipped rig?
