check your lures.

took out the lure box today to go spinning.I hadn't opened it for about 2 months.Imagine my surprise to find a gooey mess among the eddystone eels and redgills.If some different types of rubber are stored togrther a chemical reaction takes which degenerates the lures so if you havn't checked your lures recently do it soon to prevent an over-winter melt.

this also occurs if the lures come into contact with different types of paper of all things !!

Im sorry to pull this old thread up, softbait often "melt" in plastic lureboxes, allways check that your box if heatproof that often does the trick and the lure wont melt.

I cant get live sandworms that are in good condition where i live so i have to buy the plastic ones, and often buy them in hundreds and if they would melt it would be a disaster to me.

I hope im not intruding to much here since im not from ireland, would love to visit and do some real fishing.

Plano boxes are "soft bait" proof.

Fogelberg, my comment had nothing to do with heat !! It's do do with whatever chemicals combine , making the soft plastic lures go all gooey !

It's nothing to do with the boxes either as they are for the most part soft bait proof. It's when different types of soft plastics come into contact, or when they come into contact with the adhesive on packet labels.

Sorry but your must have missunderstood me, my answer had nothing to do with heat either!...

But boxes that are heatproof does not melt softbaits, thats what i trying to tell you all. If you buy a plastic box to keep you softbaits in and its not heatproof they will melt, if you buy a heatproof box they wont melt, and of course it is as you say, you should mix different types of softbait since the composition of the different plastics will create a chemical reaction.

if you mix fishtek shads, worms etc with normal jelly worms, they will melt
