Weather:Clear skies, stiff to strong E to NE

Bait:Lug, Razor

Rigs:One up, one down

Results:2 Codling, 6 Flounder, 1 Bass

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:Great surf but stiff easterlies from the off. Had nothing for the first two hours but then had four flounder in quick succession at close range. Went quiet for another two hours, then caught a nice bass. Went quiet again until low tide. Then had two codling and two more flounder within twenty minutes. Application of 'moon theory' overcomes the curse of the easterely wind once more!

Nice Bass Pat, what size was it..? Hard to judge but looks a good 3Ib. In great condition too.

The bass we have had over that way have been in fine fettle too. Only thing is, is the majority were very heavy bellied and full of spawn/milt. To the extent, one of the male fish I had was dripping milt as I was unhooking him.

Photo's can be deceiving - just under 2lb would you believe.

Would you believe Art the bass was taken about 10.30. However, I had a bit of activity with the flounder just before the moon broke the surface. Only for a complete foul up with my reel I would definitely have caught more fish (possibly a bass or two?) as they were biting as soon as the bait hit the water. However, when the moon did rise things went quiet for a bit.

There are marks over that way that hold resident populations of cod all year. We were steadily picking them up from my boat last year drifting over mixed ground with gills close to the shore (up to 50 yards or so)

I would agree with pete, there are marks here that hold cod all year round. However. most of these are boat marks - eventhough many are close to shore. I have picked cod up from one beach in particular during the summer months, but from this venue I have never caught cod other than the winter months and was surprised by my catch the other night. Some of the outer beaches of Cork Harbour do produce cod in numbers around this time of year. Most likely the cod shoals that have moved down the river from their winter marks and will be taking up residency around the harbour mouth.
