East Cork Beach, April 27th

#1 Post by petekd »

People:Myself, Phanover, Steve

Duration:9.30 ish to 1.00

Tide:Ebb, low, flow,

Weather:Flat calm, balmy almost

Bait:Fresh lug, Sandeel, Razor

Rigs:Various, mostly single hook clip downs

Results:Me-2 LSDs, 1 Coalie, 1 Flounder and 1 Strap Conger(I think) Paul and Steve blanked.

Catch and Release:: Yes Nothing in that worth eating...

Report:

Headed east again last night in pursuit of bass. Realised it was going to be a struggle on arriving at the mark to find it virtually flat calm with barely a ripple on it. After an hour or so of fruitless fishing, I took a different approach, and began wading out and blasting baits as far as I could. This seemed to do the trick with firstly a doggie, followed by a nice flounder then a Coalie, followed by another doggie before finally pulling in a strap conger (see pic below, not sure if its a freshwater eel or not perhaps someone could comment, poor pic though I know.) All fish bar the coalie came at range. The 2 lads were unfortunate with big bass baits fished in the little breaking water there was being largely ignored.

A pleasant nights fishing all the same and nice to be on the beach on a night like that. 4 species were a bonus for me, was blasting out a full sandeel in faint hope of some form of a ray but alas that was not meant to be.
