Seaweed for Bait

#1 Post by Anonymous »

Have gutted a fair number of dabs over the last year and along with plenty of crabs I've found that they have a liking for seaweed. Small bits, of course, of the sea lettuce variety. Anybody else find this. Could be the start of a bait revolution! Forget about your peeler and white rag, it'll be kelp and bladderwrack cocktails henceforth

I think it was me that posted that, memory a bit patchy though. Have kept on seeing it since mainly in flatfish although have also retrieved it from pollock.

Perhaps if you put in layers of seaweed and meat/worm baits between pieces of bread you could make up the equivalent of a big mac. You'd have to catch fish as everyone knows junk food is irresistible   .

I think that smaller fish will actively eat it. Seaweed is incredibly rich in vitamins and minerals so why wouldn't they :?: I like the big mac idea though

the mullet are eating the wee maggots that flies lay in the seaweed.
