alrite lads waz thinkin of goin out 2 greystones prob goin 2 fish the pier but im goin 2 b fishin 4 dogs nd conger i waz thinkin tht if ya look 2 the rite off the pier (when your standin on it) thers a few rocks would it b better 2 go and fish the rocks for the conger or shud i just go 2 the pier? also wud the rocks b better for dogfish as well cause ive fished the pier a couple of times and i havent even catched dog
if you go about 200m to the right of the pier these a set of steps for swimmers access to the water. if you fish from here straight out 2hours either side of HW you can get alot of fish, place folunder dab codling coalies dogs rockling and whiting are what iv caught here recently in a few hours

If you fish the pier in the eveing you will get plenty of dogs, just stick on some Mackerel strip on a hook and you can't fail.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!
Any worm bait tipped with mackeral should be fine...mussel tipped with mackeral works well here too and some peeler is good if you can get your hands on it for Flounder and Plaice!
i was using rag for getting plaice dab and flounder, found lug was getting codling whiting and coalies. doggy took razor but im sure any fish bait would do and i had a rockling 1lb10oz (1lb12oz is a specimen) under my feet on a cocktail of everything and anything

Sounds like a nice spot! Does there be much fishing there?
I've never seen anyone fish the steps where your talking about alright...but there usually is people fishing the pier and both the south & north beach but most of the fishing seems to be done at night time as the beaches dont usually produce that much at night...well thats what i've found anyway
hey al its a spot my van frequently visits can hold big cod in winter after a good blow and as paul said holds many different fish its also easier to fish than the harbour which definitly isnt fishing frendly due to its high wall and two foot wide walkway
Sorry i meant to say i find that i find the beach doesn't fish as well during the day woops!
Yeah roger i fish greystones quite a bit myself i think i'll give them steps a try in the next few weeks. i usually fish the beach but last time i was fishing greystones i fished the rocks beside the harbour and i found it fishes well enough. I'm interested in these cod though maybe somewhere to try next winter too are there red cod there during summer if you mind me asking?
there are fish from the harbour all along the rocks to the start of south beach. pollack mackeral and bass too. can be good for flats sometimes but often only for a short window in the tide. this changes too?!!? rag and sandeel is a good bait here but cocktails can be very effective mixing the above with crab mussel and thin strips of squid or mackeral. i am sure there are gars here too....
cod only in winter some in summer but not any size and only evening/night fishing up by the river on the south beach on a big tide can fish well for cod towards the end of the summer all 1.5 -2.5 lb
