me casting...

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

well i wont let midget get all the limelight...

this is my attempt at a pendulum.. now dont forget i have a bad back so i cant do a full body turn...

but look at the vid and any comments that may improve my casting will be appreciated..

i have edited it so it shows three speeds.. 100%, 50% and 25%..

Considering you have a bad back, that's still quite a good turn.

Looks like you may be coming round a little early and not letting the sinker come back far enough. How long is your drop? You could try a little longer, let the sinker come back and then turn and HIT it.

If you raise your left a little more you will get deeper into the cast. Keep it out away from the body until both arms are in front of you facing the target and then pull it in - HARD. The rod is a lever and a spring - use the leverage and compress the spring!

You are dancing around a little. Your weight is transferring from right to left - which is good, but you lose firmness by lifting your foot as you come forward.

Having said all that, you have a lot of power there, just have to get it into the cast.

Putting the vid at 25% is excellent for anaytical purposes!! Well done.

Thanks for the vid and good luck.

the drop is about 3" from my right hand.. you can see it pass in the first part of the swing(if i dropped it anymore i would lose my knuckles it passed that close)

might try get out later and raise left arm.. and the whole footing thing.. they have a mind of their own but they do keep me well balanced thankfully...

will see what i can come up with later :D

Hi steve, your arms seem to be a bit low as you set up the cast and come through, by the time your ready to apply the power you left has nowhere to go other than down, idealy the lead should be pulled through in the same plane as the rod, from what i can see it seems to be out and hence chopping the cast over you shoulder which only looses power by decreasing the arc,,just my opinion

i took all notes into consideration.. raised left arm a bit more.. let lead swing a bit more.. kept firm footing... OMG   i could really feel the compression build up before the release... pity i had a strong head wind, had to put mags on full and keep it like that :( (still got 156yrds though).. next time i'm out with less/no wind i'll give it another shot.. (might have to let the knee heal a bit though  )

stevecrow you may have to strap that knee up when you go power casting, it will help stablise it and may stop you from making it worse, or you could stop casting

Hi Steve,

Excellent idea reducing the speed of the vid. Really makes it handy for looking at compression.

Although it's a little late, I would tend to agree with Ian.... Looks like in the Vid you are hitting it a little early. I've been doing this a little lately and it seems to happen a little after I make a few adjustments.

I normally know I'm hitting early, because I feel little or no load on the rod until I'm half way through the swing. When you get in right, you feel the compression for sure.... Just ask KStaff

It wasn't the CME thank god, it was an old rock rod I had changed slighty for casting 4oz leads! The time I spent on that old rod, we were like best friends!! Ahh well the new Primo Synchro will sort the sadness out!!
