Can anyone from Derry or Donegal (or anyone who can help!) tell me where I can dig my own lug and rag up around here?
Any PM's treated in the strictest confidence, as always...
Cheers,
Gary

Jeez Gary, where do you start to answer a question like that?
The easy bit first, I suppose: If anyone knows of a place to dig rag in Donegal they're not going to tell anyone they don't know and trust 100%. But if you ever find out about anywhere, be sure to let me know...
Lug: Just tootle around the beaches when the tides are out, and you'll spot the lug beds. The strand over in Magheraroarty is one such place.

When I was living in Derry I used to dig my rag at Longfield Bank in the Foyle or out near the Roe mouth also. Now its not the easiest and they might not be the biggest but you'll get enough for a couple of sessions in an hour.
Sea Species(25) bass, codling, whiting, turbot, seatrout, stingray, pollock, coalfish, longspine scorpion, ballan wrasse, dogfish, ling, pouting, poor cod, dab, mackerel, smelt, sandeel, launce, bull huss, painted ray, thick lip mullet, golden grey mullet, rock goby.
Fresh Water (2) brown trout, sea trout

I dig all mine at REMOVED - they are nice and large. Its great as this beach near Malin (Nice and close to me) and great when the tide is out.
A friend and i used to dig them for people (at a small cost) but no one seems to want them as much these days...

I was down there a few weeks ago with me Da actually. Nothing but the odd lugworm...
We were just down in front of what looked like an old disused train station.
Is this the same place?

I was down by the trout fishery....headed along the embankment to the very end where there is a bit of a car park. Walked out and dug along the edge of the mussel beds. Its not the kind of digging that suits everybody but the rag were a perfect size for knocking out flats Shamrock. Plus there is plenty of mussels too :)

Was that by commercials Peacock, or by recreational anglers?
