Species ID.

Anyone know for sure what this little chap is, brought it in near the archway on Greystones North beach last night.
Some are saying freshwater eel and some are saying launce, anyone know 100%
2008 Species: Flounder, whiting, coal fish, Dogfish, rockling, dab.

The head is kinda at a strange angle cos he kinda garrotted himself on the line :(

its a freshwater eel aka european eel

Color greenish-brown to yellowish-brown. It has small vertical gill openings that are restricted to the sides. The lower jaw is slightly longer and projects. The dorsal fin originates far behind the pectoral fins, whereas the anal fin originates slightly behind the anus and well back from the origin of the dorsal fin.

its a freshwater eel !! a launce is the greater sandeel !! meself and stevecrow are 1OO% !!!! :)

specimens 09 - twait shad 1.22kg , 3 beard rockling 2lb 6oz , whiting 3lb .

Its definately a freshwater/ silver eel, (Anguilla anguilla).

It's a saddle cover for a Triumph 20 :? . Does anybody else remember the Triumph 20 or is it just me showing my age :cry: ?
