I've recently started to use glow beads on my rigs as I primarily fish all-nighters and I was looking to find some sort of small portable UV lamp to charge the beads up as using the headlamp was tiresome and slow.
I looked about the city centre yesterday and found a UV note checker, basically a small handheld keychain torch that checks banknotes for authenticity.

You can get them in the gadget shop on the top floor of the Jervis Centre for 15 euros, I tested it last night and it charges beads a lot better than the headlamp that I was using.
I hope this is useful for someone else.
Eoin.

This can be had at ALDI next week http://ireland.aldi.com/special_buys2/product_178.html. I'm not sure how much light is required to charge the beads but if nothing else you can security mark your kit :).

Use a cheap flash unit you'd fit on a camera, about €20, but I've found they (the lumi beads) have their drawbacks. Have often dropped fish after the first 10 or so winds I've put this down to the fish taking the beads rather than the bait. Have often struck on good solid takes 5/10 times without hooking the fish. I'ts a case of user beware.

I've been using stop knots to keep the beeds down on the bait rather than letting them run up the trace. I've not been using the glow beads long so have still to gather some experience with them.
