Bangor rock mark,Co Down,7-4-07
People:me
Duration:2pm-7:30pm
Tide:high @ 2:40pm
Weather:nice
Bait:rag
Rigs:fixed pat with floating beads and 3/0 hook
Results:red cod,ballan wrasse and coalie
Catch and Release:: Yes
Report:I thought i`d start my weeks holiday with a spot of wrasse fishing so i headed down to my favourite wrasse spot after work.I only waited 5mins for the first bite but i missed it,but i was still hopeful of getting a few fish.twenty mins later i had a cracking bite which resulted in a nice red cod of 2lb and 5mins later i got my second fish,a 2lb ballan wrasse.It wasn`t fast and furious fishing like it would be mid summer but every 20mins or so i`d have bites or get a fish.I ended up with four wrasse 1lb-2lb,two red cod 2lb & 2.4lb and two coalies both just over 1lb.A very enjoyable session,might try again tomorrow :)

Report:Thought i`d head down again seeing as i`ve loads of rag leftover from this weeks fishing.Bites came pretty quick again and my second cast produced a ballan of about 1lb but for some reason i couldn`t hook the fish every time i had a bite and ended up with a lot of missed fish :( .The last hour of light seemed to get the fish feeding and i was getting bites every chuck but i only had one more ballan which was about 8oz and another nice cod of 2.5lb :D It was too dark after that so i packed up.

This happens to me quite a lot when I go wrasse fishing, particularly when I'm using rag as bait.
I'm convinced it's small fish like pouting and poor cod (and small wrasse also) who are the culprits, mainly because I've caught them as a by-catch! :lol:
To connect with more fish, try tipping your rag baits with a bit of squid (or even a small section of an elastic band.) These smaller fish have an irritating habit of "sucking" the worm off your hook and leaving you looking like a sucker up there on the rocks...

I`ve tried the piece of elastic band before but the fish still somehow managed to take the worm and leave the piece of elastic :roll:

for the cod it would but not too sure about the wrasse,and its very rough ground two hooks would just increase tackle loss which can be quite high anyway :(corbyeire wrote:would pennelling the worm help?
