5ht & 6th of april fethard on sea
People:club session
Duration:2 days in the boat
Tide:dropping
Weather:glorious
Bait:rag, mackeral, squid
Rigs:3up, gilling 2out, animal 3 out
Results:10 species, cod , pollack, pouting ,poor cod, ballan, cookoo, dog, blonde ray, thornback ray, coalie
Report:the fishing produced a great mixed bag but they weren't there in great numbers, the pollack were not feeding on the jellies, they prefered pink sabiki's as did the cod & pouting, the ray came to the oldest trick in the book squid and maceral marinated with wd-40 in total there were 9 ray, when the coalies came on they were no more than 20 feet under the boat when fishing in approx 90 to 100 foot.
it was great to get out and wet a line on the boats for the first time this year, my next planned session is 20th may in kilmore quay but lets hope that i can get out before then.

you cant quote me and edit my quote to suit your argument!! but i agree with you all ray caught had the shamrock whistling spoon above the botom hook and all used seaguar fluro, anyone not using the same blanked on the ray front, cant fault the shamrock stuff. also found fish on shamrock ray basher rigs and the red muppet rig, highly imporessed with shamrock gear, wouldnt go fishing (boat or shore) without the stuff

they are a great bit of kit fishing foe
ray, tope, ling, dogs, huss, plaice and flats alike
on sand
if the tide is running it helps to secure your bait on the bottom, at the same time the ports in it causes a vibration which attracts fish
over a reef
you use it up off the bottom
at the same time the ports in it causes a vibration which attracts fish, and big ones at that

all fishing in this part of the country is on the drift, we tried the anchor once and wasnt as productive as the drift, generally speaking if you were catching ie using shamrock gear, you were getting one a drop. only drifted for about an hour and had 3 thornies myself (in an hour and out of that spent at least 25mins sorting a tangle and then retying).

FETHARD THROWS UP SOME FISH
Fethard throws up some fish
weve had days down there were we would catch up to 15 species of fish in one session
and a lot of species between the 5 & 8 lbs mark
the funny thing about this place is the basic gear works well
rigs unbaited catch more fish over the reefs
