A forum can be restricted to registered or frequent posters. Frequent posters have been registered for 6 months and have made 50 posts.
This is in place for the fishing tackle for sale/wanted forum.
Perhaps a new forum in the community area for frequent users??
I have discounted most of the cms I have looked at so far for a number of reasons, I'm still looking at the CMS Made Simple, but there appears to be a problem with at least one of the components under a windows server environment.

.kml would seem to be a possibility as there are probably straight-forward ways of translating to/from other formats.
I should point out that I'm viewing this as a medium-term project!! If done right, I think it would be a really nice way to share information about locations, particularly with more and more people using GPS / SatNav.

I think that we are going to have to accept that these marks if they are put on a database that is connected to the internet they are going to get out. but thats ok. we don't have to put every mark we know on there. we put a number of them up just the ones we feel like sharing if we all did that we would still have a pretty impressive list. If you wanted to travel around the country at least you would have a couple of marks to hit for.

anybody here use flickr. Flickr is a photo sharing site you can add people as contacts or as friends
contacts can see just your public photos
friends can see your private photos photos that are not visible to everyone
you can add and remove friends at will.
this could lend a certain amount of control each persons marks. each person would be sharing out their own information and controlling it that way.
or is that just a little ambitious???? :D

My original thoughts were to add marks that we all know about anyway. It shouldn't be any different to the information that's already out there, just easier to use and easier to download onto your SatNav device.

I seen a similar thing done on hard copy back in the north east of England, one of the guys took an ordinary map of the coastline and wrote in all of the marks.
If over here is the same, a lot of marks will be known by different names to different people. To write on aka would help.
I totally believe in not giving any information to them that will abuse our coastline (we all know who they are) but I think this idea will help them that care more than them that don't.
This would allow two SAI members from opposite sides of the country to PM each other without any mix up....personally I don't think there should be a restriction on posts made, anyone asking could be informed in private. If say a trawler-man wanted information that badly, he could lurk and post on here every now and again just to be allowed in when enough posts were made.
