daiwa rod hoop break

#1 Post by AlanF »

hi all,

hope someone can help picked up 2nd hand diawa rod and abu garcia reel for 10 quid yesterday only prob is the first hoop on the rod is snapped off. It clips in but is there anywhere in dublin I can get it repaired?

the hoop folds up when in use so it'll need to be fixed on hard, do you think superglue would be alright?

Thanks,
Alan

superglue will not do , the varnish around your broken eye will have to be stripped away and the "eye will have to be rewhipped !!

you will need a new eye and it will have to be rewhipped. you could learn to do this yourself by looking at http://www.harrisonrods.co.uk ( takes about 10 mins to whip an eye well by hand ). all you would need is whipping thread, an eye (obviously) and some flex coat to finish ( failing that varnish is cheap, easier to get hold of and does the job ).
otherwise getting an eye put on in a shop costs about €20 and not all tackle shops do it.

and superglue is not a good idea as you have to have the eye on straight and if the eye breaks you would have to get the glue off as well as the eye.

I'll second Des in Southside, he repaired a ring for me that had been bodged by someone else, he didn't even charge me as he was selling me a bit of kit at the time anyway. Top job, he even lashed on my tiplight holder as he didn't want to see that just superglued on.
