license for sea trout

#1 Post by BRAD »

Hi all,
I will be visiting the Dingle area during the end of May / beginning of June as I do every year , for 10 days of beach/rock fishing.I will be fishing Inch strand among other venues and would like to know how I go about obtaining a license in case I catch a sea trout or indeed a Salmon (optimistic I know!!).Do they do a two week one ? if so how much is it and where can I get one?.Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi Brad

There is a 21-day licence available that costs €48 and covers you to fish anywhere in the ROI during the 21-day period.

If you're staying longer than that but only fishing one area you could buy a district licence for €60, that covers you to fish a specific fishery district for the whole season.

Licences can be purchased in most tackle shops, and are now available online at http://www.salmonlicences.ie - posted out to you in 4 working days.

Don't forget to return your logbook and tags at the end of the licence period/season - otherwise you'll receive a nice on-the-spot fine that'll cost you as much as another licence!

PS Inch Strand is a known bass mark and if you're fishing end May/early June that is the closed season for bass........
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

if you are lure/bait fishing in the sea and not targetting salmonids do you really need a licence? once you are going to return any fish that you catch be chance of course, which i would highly recommend you do.

we pick up the odd sea trout when bassing or mackerel spinning, they get unhooked in the water and off they go straight away.

as bradan said though be aware thats it bass closed season then

There is an additional conservation stamp which doubles the price of the licence

I had included that in the prices I quoted above...
