First beachcaster was a ABU zoomcaster, got it 1977 and cost me £100 at the time,a fortune then, think I saved my pocket money for a year or something!, still have it today, actually got it reringed a couple of years ago and still looks great although is a bit heavy.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!

Great topic Stevo!!! Mine was a 10ft non descript brown spinning rod. Was lovely and tippy and perfect for a younfella to throw spinners and 3/4 ounce weight for flounders and whiting where ever the DART brought me and my fishing buddy. Had my first fish on it, a flounder of barely palm size at the old roadstone quarry just outside Wexford Town (ah the happy memories :D ). Thousands of fish on it through the years till I eventually began to trade up when I was in my late teens. Like a lot of people have said already, I wouldn't part with it for love nor money, still have it in the shed, don't know if I'm just be sentimental or what but I think I caught way more fish on it than my more expensive kit.

My first beach setup was a green Silstar 12ft and silstar reel.like most of the anglers i know i have too many rods and reels but i like to give the old rod an outing every now and then purely for sentimental reasons.
it is on its third set of rings and it will be a sad day for me if it snaps .i have caught thousands of fish with it over the years the biggest was a 33lb conger and the way it creaked that night i thought it was a gonner.Happy memories :)
