bull huss
as the days lengthen and the evenings get finer my mind begins to turn to summer and primerily bull huss and my anual attempt to get a speciman from the shore. what i would like to know is when others begin to target them. i usually start at the end of march or start of april and actively target them until october. they then tend to move offshore (i think).
shore species 2008(25):dogfish(3.1lbs), bull huss (12lb 2oz), bass, shore rockling, coalie, whiting, pollack, conger (22.4lbs),flounder, thick lipped mullet (4.8lbs),turbot,ling (11.2lbs),ballan wrasse(4.5lbs), cuckoo wrasse, pouting, poor cod, cod (9.5lbs), dab, 3 bearded rockling, long spined scorpion fish, corkwing wrasse, plaice, trigger fish, sea trout, garfish

I've picked up a few small huss back in january which isn't unusual as the mark fishes through the winter. I don't get alot of big huss but for me autumn is the best time. That may be due to the shorter evenings as well as the warmer weather. I had a nice huss on the surface last December but it bit through the trace. When do you think the huss fishing goes off.

been thinking about this a bit lately and the earliest ive had them is mid april but ive only really begun to target them at that time of the year. ive tried a few times the last few wks with no results but its on a mark ive never fished before.think i'l try my banker mark over the weekend and see what its like.have had them until the start of october but not in great numbers september is the last month in which i get them regurly. best months for here are june to mid september with july/aug the best for both size and numbers.
whats also quite interesting is that one of my favourite marks regurly fishes well in blazing sunshine, 2 years ago i lost one on the surface that was about 13/14lbs on a july day when it was 30degrees in the sun....
