I've just had a look and it looks like I'll possibly buy some of the accessory sets and the filleting kit in a case looks good.
Thanks for the post, had I not seen it I may not have known to go to Lidl on Thursday.

I bought a 14' beach caster and reel in a case for €39 the last time they had stuff and i also bought some of the lure, and hook sets. The rod and reel are still perfect and i find it great. As for the lure and hook sets. I havent used them all but they do the trick.
The way i see it one of the reels....

Its the price of sandwich and a coffee or 20 smokes for any smokers.
If it had the name Penn on it how much would it be. Even if you got a season out the stuff for that price.

i personally wouldnt use any of the lures or anything, some of the reels are useable, just, and handy for spares but the lures are pretty poor.

weak hooks, awful split rings. i think they are false economy, especially if you loose thge fish of a lifetime when one of the hooks snap or the rings bend out. just not worth it to me

Have you bought the kits before and found this to be the case?
Only thing I really thought would be handy would be a box of bits and bobs and the filleting stuff.

Sometimes, the kits are worth the cash for the boxes they come in. Adam is right however about the split rings and trebles on the lures etc but they can be easily replaced. For the cash, the bits and bobs arent usually too bad.

Have to agree with Adam, the kit seemed pretty poor quality to me... I bought a set of gear before just for the box it came in - lots of little compartments, perfect for keeping your rig-building components together :D - but threw out all the stuff that came in the box, you could tell it was low-grade stuff. Like Adam said, if you lost a great fish on it you'd be pretty annoyed at yourself....

Well if you hooked a great fish on the stuff then cant be that bad.
Only if you've used the stuff can you say what its like and i used it. Caught a 5lb trout on a small lure and a rake of pike from a river and i used all the rigs, hooks, rod, reel etc etc on my shore trips this year and i caught some nice size codling (pics in my Gall).
So make up your own mind people.

hooks, swivels, links, leads have all worked fine for me - others on another thread got good use out of one of the lines - cant remember which breaking strain

I bought the filleting kit about a year ago when they had it on sale. Great for cutting butter. Enough said!

I got them too. Still sharp as a razor. Knives do blunt when u use them. :roll:

Different horses for different courses i suppose.

They had a 9ft fly outfit for £24-99 about 6mts ago ,go one for the kids you got a rod, reel, line, tippet, 6 flys in box, build guailty on rod not too bad,the reel and line a bit iffy, the son was well pleased ,first trout on it was a rainbow about 2.5 lbs and it proformed well.

Did the filleting kit come with the pen knife and weighing scale? Even if knives are crap, would it be worth getting the kit for those two?

hi

yes i bought a couple of the kits when they were first sold here, and one rod and reel.

the rod lasted on session and snapped, the lures in the kit hooked a few macks and pollock but then fell apart. cheap line i would never buy, learnt that lesson many years ago. the reel i still have, use the odd time and its fine so far

the weighing scales, unless you need the knives, i would not other with and would maybe invest in a decent waymaster or reubon or something. cheap ones tend to stick and rust easily

the plugs and the lures will catch fish, but after having to replace all the rings and hooks i dont find they are worth the price. i would rather have one good plug than a whole box of dodgy ones.

there is some decent stuff (the starlight kits are a good price), but sift through the crap.

Got two of the 6.99 reels last time and I have to say I'm very impressed with them, they pulled in every one of my bass last ear without problem as Cortaz can confirm... incidently also two 14lb carp in a small lake in Galway!

At the end of the day you get what you pay for, thats all you can really expect...

Got the knives and bait board before,no complaints and got a few other bits and pieces that I give to my mates when they come out with me on thier annual outing in the Summer :lol: ,no point in giving them the expensive gear,its all the same to them :lol: .
