whats the difference

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

The sunset has a the sports power handle where as the green has a normal power handle. Other than that its colour scheme.

How ya Paul,

for what it's worth I have the Green one and love it, casts well and is easy to maintain, have mine 6 years and never once gave me trouble. I don't think perfromanace wise there's a huge difference ( if any ) between the 2. Load it up with 15lb and you're off!!Ohh yeah don't forget the shockleader

Like Kstaff said, there isn't much in it between the two models. AFAIK the reason for the Orange reel is that Abu were stopped from using the name Elite in the US as it was registered to a Charter boat company. Jack Erskine who is an Abu tech and distributor in Australia wanted the orange reel and they killed 2 birds with one stone, they called the reel "The 6500 Florida" to market it in the US and Australia and not being a company to miss a chance they decided to sell it in Europe too.

I like the green Mag Elites and happen to think they look better than the orange ones 8)

nothing really mate, i have both and they both handle the same. i have to admit i like the colours off the orange one better. as for the coned spool porobaly adds a few extra yards on a tournament field, but sure u would not see it when the line is on the reel anyway.

ive ordered the sports mag (blue) looks a very nice reel, with the knob especially, must be trying to compete with the suprermag xtra...

The Sports Mag is a nice looking reel but not as good as the mag elites, just not as robust ,the plastic bit for adjusting the mag is flimsy and gets clogged up with sand. Have heard of them snapping too, but i recently heard there is a metal replacement for the plastic bit but i ain't come across one yet.

Don't think they are trying to compete with the Supermag Extra, as they are 2 totally different reels for differing purposes, and the Abu Sports Mag has been in production for many years and the Supermag Extra is only available recently.

Ive a SportsMag, amongst most of the other major beach reels and it is quite simply the best Multiplier reel I own. Easy to control, super casting, power handle for easier retrieve.....lovely reel.

I have a pair of the The 6500 Florida reels and i have to say they are excellent for fishing over clean ground.

I've got both the 525 Supermag and the Orange Mag Elite. I like them both. If I could take only one I'd probably go for the ABU. It is practically foolproof on the maximum mag setting but still casts plenty far enough for most situations.
