finally got back on line, after having to use dial up for the last 2 weeks. got out last friday to fish a new mark for huss which threw up a few questions

firstly what do people find the best knot for 100lb mono, i always used a blood knot with a mushroomed tag end to stop it slipping, but on friday it slipped 3 times and lost my hook, and that was with 35lb main line

secondly has anyone had trouble with there tackle rolling into snags in a strong cross wind. i lost alot of rigs, even with a rotton bottom. i was casting across the wind which resulted in a bit of a bow in my line. the sea was not exceptionally rough because of the direction of the wind so i thought it may have been because of the wind catching my line (35lb line is quite thick) and thus rolling into a snag.when i change direction and cast down wind i started getin my rigs back....

isn't the uni knot supposed to be better for heavier line
i stil use tucked half blood knot.

1.pass the heavy mono through the eye of the hook leaving about 8 inches of line to work with ..jpg

use above knot for heavy stuff. will work with most lines above 25lb. can be used with lighter lines but moreso for hooks or small swivels. uni knot is good for lines under 25lb. use a blood knot to hooks unless using crab or sandeel. 4 turns for 20lb...and so on. more turns the lighter the line goes.

use a grip when wind is up on rock venues. cast shorter. fish your hook up in the water. watch leads or a flattened bomb will also provide more grip than standard plain.

was usinfixed 7oz gemini's, tried flats as well but no real change. tied up some more traces today and snelled some of the hooks and tested them with a pliers and seemed to be very stable.

thats a serious sinker to be movin around? was there any tide? must hav been a really strong wind? u cud hav tried whipping the sinker wires so they cant break out- can increase holding power.

wasthinking about this last nite and there may have been a fairly strong tide running,hard to tell because of the wind (gusting force 6) but the mark is on the southern end of a headland so i'm guessing there would be a pretty significant tide run there. partially one of the reasons i'm hoping for huss there
