yes it's the loop that gives the knot its strenght- doubling the mono and i presume the strenght of the knot. loop flies through the rod rings when casting, no problems....

wish i could get a diagram for it. Rockhopper showed it to me and i would never ever use another shock knot. the old knots are muck....

I think what fishinmidget means is something I've wondered myself, you put a loop in the leader, so do you put a loop in the main line too to join to the leader? How does the bimini twist work to join it to the main line basically? It's just one loop as fm says..??

(I think that's what he means anyway, if not it's my question then ;))

Not sure about the spider hitch but imaging it is the same as the bimini in that the loop goes at the end of the reel line to create a loop. A figure of 8 knot or something similar is used to attach the shockleader to the mainline.

The finished knot.

Hope this helps

For clean ground use the spider hitch loop the same as putting through a single line into a thumb knot. This gives an improved knot but not 100%.

The stronger hitch is wrapped around the shock about 5 times. The shock is then wrapped around this knot 1 and half times and the tag end is put through the loop and pulled tight. This has a tag end 90 degrees to the line so clatters through the rings but is easy to tie and is 100% strong.

Eoin, Alex,

What the double line does is make the cone of the mainline marry up to the shocker knot better....it slides through the guides better.

The Spider Hitch and the Bimini form a loop, but as you tie them to the leader the loop becomes the tag end and that gets cut off.

Forget the Bimini for shore fishing, it stretches far to much, get a sinker fast up and it can fire it back at you like a bullet, spider hitch is way better for shore fishing. It takes 5 seconds to tie...most people tie the Bimini with their foot and then cant get the fecker off

I have pictures somewhere...must try to learn how to post them on here

Here you go....step by step Spider Hitch... check out the other knots on this site, it is quite good for diagrams. Look at the very bottom of the webpage they have all the knots listed.

so the spider hitch should be on the end of the intended shockleader? thats 1 loop, then to attach it to ur main line what knot would u use, or another loop?

This is how the Spider Hitch loop is attched to the shock leader...step by step too....from Neil Mackellows site. Check out his other stuff while your there.

I suppose you could tie an albright knot into the arch of the loop, instead of making a small loop as I normally would to tie an albright.
I've gone on to tapered shockleader myself cos I had a leader knot break a ring and almost end an all night session really early, won't go back from the tapered stuff now.
