Cod fishing in Donegal this Saturday

#1 Post by Irish_Shamrock »

Hi folks,

The Social Club in our work has organised a days cod fishing from a boat in Downings, Donegal.

Can anyone give me any hints as to what baits/tactics/rigs, etc to use? I've never even fished for cod from the shore before let alone from a boat!

Thanks very much for any help. I need it!

Cor, lucky you. Wish it was me.

Best advice is: Find out which boat you'll be out on and give the Skipper a call. He's the best guy to advise you.

Ask him if you'll be wrecking for cod, drifting or anchored up.

Sorry, only seeing this now...

We went out, but not after cod. We just drifted over Frenchman's Rock hitting loads of pollack. Biggest about 13lbs. Mostly on jelly worms.

Good oul days craic though.

If that's the same Frenchman's that I'm thinking off, it must've been a very very shallow draft boat!

Nice place, good for Haddock thereabouts too. :D
