Ok....went out today to try to put the advise into pratice.....i think i messed up :oops: i will post the video in a mo but i did get one thing out of the session....the best birdy of the year so far :D :lol:

i am of average height but have a powerful build and lad you can cast better than me, so size has nothing to do with it, as i am told its all in the technique and practice and practice and practice

hey fishinmidget dont mind the slagin u might be small butt thats a giant man size birdy anyone would be proud of :D keep up the posts the video livens up the site i,d hate to see my cast on video probably look like i had a brick on the line not a lead can u not put video on this site ? or do u have to use u tube ?

Hi Alex,

The drop length looks much better, however - you are still bending your right arm way too much and also instead of picking a target in the sky and punching up towards it you are looking back towards the rod. If you re-read Sean's response on our site - [url=http://ulstercastingclub.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=284]here[/url] - it will tell you everything you need to know. Then it's down to you to get out and practice, practice, practice.

When you get the timing right you would not believe how slow it can be done and still pull a hell of a bend in the rod 8)

the swing looks fine and will get better with confidence. u are leading with your right arm and not with your left this means you are losing out the punch pull. u are killing your cast by doin this. the lead will still go out a fair distance but if u can lead with left hand it will bring u into a punch pull that utilises all the power buit up in the cast. the lead will sail when you do this!

well your drop is perfect, the two things id say to work on are, on your inswing when the lead is coming back at you slow it down dont let the rod drift back or up before you go to hit it, keeping you left hand out and high well away from your body and around eye level so as you come around your left is higher than your right hand, this will help generate more power by increasing the arc size and keeps your tip lower to the ground in order to tuck it under the cast, but all in all its getting better and as you say practice, practice and more practice, theres no short cuts...
Oh and nice birdy,lets you see just how much power your putting in, the bigger the better,,, :twisted:

And also lads can we keep the verticaly challanging slagging under wraps as for outsaiders looking in it doesnt look too good and may put people off, thanks.

And lads, for all the slagging about height, I can vouch that he's sprouted a good few inches lately and will have to change his forum name soon... quick someone take fishingiant before he grabs it! :P

Oh, and he's not a bad angler either........

not really, mabey a few yards. I nearly always have the reel running as tight as possible because i dont want to have finshed a session having done 10 casts and having reeled in 1200+ yards of line.

So the 4 main things i have to work on are:

getting the lead swinging with my left arm.

not letting the rod tip go so high up before i hit it.

hold the rod out from my body.

LOOK UP AND OUT!!!!!!!

I'm not any a caster as the other lads so feel free to correct me but being learner caster myself the frustrations of starting out are fresher with me. Don't be to worried about birdies as fear of them can wreck up your cast. Don't over think the cast try and correct things one or two things at a time. When practising don't worry about what distance you get its more important to get the rod to bend. Get the rod tip as low as possible before the power stroke and if it scraps off the ground occasionaly don't worry about it.

Was that the cast that caused the birdy.
Your casting down the butt are you leaving the reducer on the rod because the reel seems a long way up the butt. I cast down the butt with the reducer removed and the reel is about 6" from the end of the rod. At the end of the cast the rod seemed to jerk as it hit the underside of your arm. That did not help in a smooth cast.

nope, that birdy at the end was caused by me forgetting i had just looosend the reel. I have to cast with the reel that far up the but because the original carbon metal dosent have a reducer. Anyway its what i feel comfortable with.
