Summer 07 SAI charter from Downings, anyone?

Booking made for Sunday 2nd September.

We're thinking a small sandy patch of a mark outside the Limeburner should be interesting at that time of year, but we can pretty much do as we please, weather permitting. It's produced Common Skate, Tope, Porgies, Specimen Gurnards, Rays and Flatties in the recent past.

So, who's in?

Ah dearie me, the talent I have for messing up the simplest of tasks amazes me.

It is Sunday, the 2nd of September. That's the day after Saturday the first of September. I've edited the post.

Just to clarify: Sunday 2nd of September, on Trevor Ryder's "Bonito" out of Downings.

Gerry, I'm fishing with Trevor all this year, have a number of outtings booked, but if there's room for one more, count me in. The reason you can't have Sept 1st, is cos I have it booked !!

Would be on for making a whole weekend of it.

This is proving to be popular..........!

So far: Me, Sandman and his bruv LSD, Pete, Petekd, and JFK from last year are on for it. That's 6.

Then there's jw, hairy, jd, mc, marco, alaistair wilson and Conor. That's another 7.

No way the boat's gonna take all of us!

So, either we go with the first 9 (first 6 plus jw, hairy and jd) and disappoint others, or I try to get Sammy Scott and we run two boats.

Gerry, maybe a couple of SAI boats could launch if everyone was still gonna go ! I know I wouldn't be up for taking the big Red out too far, but could fish inshore with another 2. Maybe talk Mark into it too ?

Also, you know yourself, it's a while away, most likely some of us will have to pull out for unforseen reasons so chances are all 15 or whatever it is won't make it.

Just another thought, I'll have the keys for the cottage that weekend in Falcarragh, so can accomodate 5 or 6 - on condition someone makes my breakfast !

Sammy's already booked, so that's that idea gone.

Dunno if you'd be happy taking your yoke out to the Limeburner Conor, it would be very weather-dependant, imo. I'll ask Mark what's he doing with Fenwick Mist, might be a chance there if he's finished with the half-day trips and is back on man-sized fishing days yet. (Only kidding, Mark.

)How many place have you filled on your Saturday trip, have you any spaces available?

Forgot to count drew as a possible, earlier. Sorry mate, got you back on the list now.

I'm away for a week, so I'll check in as often as I can to see how this thread's progressing.

No probs Gerry, as for taking the boat to the Limeburner, I wouldn't ,but would take one or two a bit closer to shore if the trip was over subscribed and anyone still wanted a days fishing off The Horn.

So whats happening how many can charter hold and whos on it. Ive a boat of my own but as far as the downings goes ive never been on it had a look at it and by god it looks good !!!! but wouldnt have a clue were to start and im in a longliner so id have to set off a day before everybody else does!! Would really like to get out on the charter as nothing beats the local skipper but if the worst comes to the worst i'll trapse the boat and the tent and give it a go. ROLL ON SUMMER TIME!

I have a boat too. Don't mind taking it out. Will be a good auld spin though. Would prefer charter but if there is no other alternative so be it.

The boat is licenced for 12, but that would be a gross overload for angling! We want to keep it kinda handy and enjoyable, and the thought 12 anglers knitting 2 and purling 1 all day long gives me the heebie-jeebies!

Trevor advises on 8 anglers, but I reckon we'll get away with 9 if we get a good experienced crew that know what they're doing. We'll be anchored up, so lighter leads trotting downtide from the back of the boat, with heavier leads behind them from the front. A couple of uptiders chucked out and away from the very front would be handy too, though the mark is perhaps a bit deep for that.

Apologies to all the rest who are interested. I've taken the crew in order of
1) participation last year and
2) their posting interest, it's the only halfway fair way I can think of doing it.

jw, hairy and jd, can you confirm you're still on for it and can you pm me your contact numbers for confirmation of go/no go weatherwise?

Regarding folks bringing up their own boats, Conor H should know a mark or two in that area by then.

Meeting up with him and having 2 or 3 small craft out around the Horn is deffo an attractive idea. Give it some thought lads. I'd be on for that myself if I hadn't other plans for that day.....

We can have a reserve list if anybody drops out of the charter. I'll keep you all informed.

Sounds good Gerry, I'm out fishing with Trevor the day before, so I won't be greedy, you can put me at the end of the list. If I don't make the starting 10 , I'll take Red out to the Horn if anyone else still wants a day out or fancies getting a flotilla going !

Only takes a few minutes to get out there, and depends where you want to fish. There's a wee bay on the outside of the Horn which is nice and calm and fishes well enough in parts , then there's the wall on the inner Horn which produces decent pollock, and there's a nice area for flatties and a wreck, but I'll keep these to myself for now - can't have Gerry and Mark hunting me down with filleting knives for giving away secrets ! I ain't no tout
