Whats your favourite? Come to the conclusion after many years of trials that razorfish takes some beating...ok when its fresh but when it dries it leaves a really particular smell that clings to everything....hands, clothes, inside of the car etc.... Maybe not as overpowering as stale mackerel but tends to linger long after the offending shellfish have been removed. I used it on the beach last night and have washed the hands four or five times and I can still smell it this morning :lol:

Aye, deffo the Razorfish alright. Manky reek off it. Its a unique smell.... :D

3 peeler crabs escaped in the boot of my car. Only found them a month or so laer :shock: :(

I've had crabs escape in the garage and they do stink but Sand Fleas :oops: they use them for bait on the east coast of the US, they're like little crabs (just bigger than yer thumb nail) fresh one day, then one dies and kills the lot.....overnight they absolutely stink..the ammonia in the air makes your eyes water.

for me it wud have to be squid juice, after they have defrosted. its not a very potent smell but theres a smell in the van since the time i spilt it in the boot, cant get rid of it. reeeks.

I deforst sand eels in my pocket one at a time. Some times I forget at the end of a session theres still one left over. A week later there an inquiry to what that fishy smell is coming from the spare room. They've also got somehow got trapped in my rig wallet a few times with the same result or get stuck to the side of the thermos flask when emptying out frozen eels which is the worst

Rings a bell...
I forgot a packet of sandeels in a fishing vest pocket.
Left it under the stairs & 'discovered' them after about two weeks.
The real smell escaped when I got a faint odour & opened the vest pocket.
The stink was horrendous.. Smell was so bad we had to throw a load of stuff out - including the ironing board & coats etc.

Missus nearly killed me.. She wretched each time she walked past the door for about a week after :oops:

So definitely manky sandeels for me too...

Fished a while ago and forgot to clean out seat box when I came home :oops:
Next time I went to open it I got a faint whiff - when I opened it it was manky - had left an open packet of sandeels there, and a sandhopper or fly had laid its eggs there - box was full of maggots, living and dead. Must have been about 200 of them. Nearly threw the box out rather than clean it......

On a brighter note...if you want to get a smell out of the car, I believe leaving a few chopped in half lemons there for a couple of days is supposed to work wonders... :)

not really a bait but i once had a bottle of pilchard oil leak in the boot of the car and it soaked into the spare wheel well where it was ok whencold just a fishy smell but the boot always smells like that :lol: it wasn't until the car was runnignand the heat from the exhaust box heated it and the smell was wafted round the car. the when you returned hoem to loom for it later it had cooled dwon and the smaell had gone took me ages to find that one.

Nobody mentioned mussels....holy crap the whack off a bad pack takes ages to get rid off. Even worse if I have rubbed my hands in my waders and go to take them out next time they have dried.

mussel is the worst followed by mackerel
regarding sand fleas i fished banna strand in near tralee in the summer and was attacked by sand fleas they where every where and attacked any bait and infested my tackle bag like something out of a horror movie :evil: never seen this on an east coast beach :?:

Has 2 b makeral,, and to make it even worse when u 4get uv let makeral in the boot of ur MOTHERS car and get kilt 4 it wasnt able 2 take the car and go fishing 4 2 weeks after that little incident! :evil: :evil:

left a dozen eels in thermoflasks 4 a few months. i opened it up and it changed my life :shock: :cry: :cry: !! i will never speak of it again...

Off topic a bit but to get rid of this ( or any fish) smell you cant beat washing your hands with lemon juice. :wink:

Went fishing with Mark and smelt his bait :shock: that was my life changing moment anyway :x :D

The worst has to be old ragworm which has been left in a bucket outside in the sun for a week until the next time you go digging.The smell when you first open it would make the dead hold their nose.

I would have to agree with Davy with that......at the end of the interpros this year me and chris had a bag of rag left over and smelt really bad....we ended up putting it outside out team mates room in the hotel :lol:
