Is there a best time of the year to target them.. i caught my first one in october last year what a fight! I was thinking of trying for a few them next weekend is it to early or are they around all year!

Hi James,

best time to target them is on a calm night with a slack tide - preferably at low water.

Fresh mackeral is the best bet (frozen will work too but the congers can be choosy at times...) Live poutung work well to so don't be afrraid to bring a light rod and try to catch some bait as well.

You can catch them from now to October.

you can catch them all year round but iv found that i caught all my big ones between august and november !

Boycie if i wanted to catch a conger between dublin and wicklow where would be my best bet??? ive never fished for them wouldnt mind catching one doh!!

at the mo coliemore harbour in dalkey or wicklow harbour would be your best bet !!

Thinken of going to newtown pier out in tramore fished out there tor them twice last year and I caught conger both nights...lost alot of gear though only casting 10 yards out at the most! But it does get dodgy if theres a swell there it depends on the weather if im going out this weekend!
